Reading is Magic

puts books into the hands of our children and allows them to know that reading is magic and books can take you places you have never been!

The Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF) is working to get books into the hands of children through the Reading is Magic program. Volunteers read to kindergarten and first grade students in the Carlsbad Unified School District, discuss the story, and then present them with a copy of the book to keep and to share at home.  Instilling the pride of book ownership and reinforcing the importance of reading to our children is a priority for CEF...and the kids love it, too!

Anecdotes

How Much Children Love Their Books

A little boy told his teacher he slept with his book every night.  When the teacher inquired why, the student replied, "Because it’s the only book I have.”

2003

After being read to in a kindergarten class, a little boy who waits in the office every day for his mother to pick him up was seen taking the If You Give A Pig A Pancake book out of his backpack.  He gave it a kiss, then opened it up to read!
