Kids’ Care

A program of the Carlsbad Educational Foundation

The Carlsbad Unified School District requested CEF to be the facilitator for its on-site, childcare programs over 15 years ago. This unique relationship has empowered CUSD with K-12 grants and services, returned through CEF from revenue provided by the childcare contracts. CEF Kids’ Care was established in 2004 as a non-profit program to improve childcare services to families in the CUSD, keep tuition and fees well below industry rates for comparable care, and further maximize this revenue relationship by eliminating a for-profit “middleman” contractor. CUSD and CEF continue to collaborate to pursue sustaining and expanding high quality childcare for working families in this district.

Kids’ Care offers before and after school childcare on site at all CUSD elementary schools. Childcare is licensed by the County of San Diego Community Care Licensing according to State of California Title 22. Kids’ Care was chosen by CUSD as the contractor for the 21st Century Community Learners after-school grant programs at Buena Vista and Jefferson Elementary schools.

Who is taking care of the children?

Teachers are chosen for their experience working with children, and must have college course units in the field of Education and/or Recreation. All staff are offered ongoing training in Communication, Curriculum, Discipline and First Aid/CPR certification. Currently, most Kids’ Care staff exceed the licensing requirements mandated by Title 22!
